The True North Strong and Geek
July 6-29 - Arts Underground
The Yukon Comic Culture Society invites you to take in work from Northern creators at The True North Strong and Geek, a juried art exhibition on display in the Focus Gallery at Arts Underground from July 6-29, 2017 (note: date of opening has changed). Artist works encompass a variety of geek genres, including:
Fantasy
Science-fiction
Imagination / the dream state
Mythology / folklore
Horror / supernatural
Comics / anime / animation
Industrial / steampunk
Science- or technology-based art
The True North Strong and Geek explores the breadth, depth, perception, and cultural role of geek-flavoured art in the North through the artwork and experiences of those who create it. Works explore and reflect on the Northern geek experience while combining genre elements with traditional Northern imagery.
People's Choice Award
Visitors to The True North Strong and Geek will be invited to vote for their favourite work. The winning artist will receive a complimentary Adult 3-Day Pass to YukomiCon 2017 - August 25-27, 2017 at the Coast High Country Inn & Yukon Convention Centre ($60 value).
